Case study · Website revamp

Gearmate: a homepage that shows instead of tells.

Gearmate lets teams, schools, military units and nonprofits open their own apparel store, with no minimums and every order shipped to the member. It’s our own product, and we gave it the same Longhouse revamp we’d give any client.

  • Project: Revamp

The problem

Good product, hidden.

The first Gearmate homepage looked fine, but it didn’t sell. A big stock-style photo and a slogan filled the screen, and the only way to see how a store actually worked was to sign up first.

Visitors had to take it on faith that setting up a store was quick, that there were no minimums, and that they wouldn’t end up collecting cash and sorting boxes. Members looking for their team’s store and organizers wanting to start one were funnelled through the same buttons.

Goals for the revamp

  • Show how a store works in the first screen
  • Separate organizers from members
  • Answer price, shipping and quality questions up front
  • Give the brand a look that fits teams and units

What we changed.

The work
  • 01

Show the product, not a stock photo

The old hero was a photo and a slogan. Now the first thing you see is the store builder itself: name, organization type and your logo on real products, with a Create button right there.

  • 02

    Two clear paths

Organizers and members want different things. Organizers get “Create a store”; members get an “I'm ordering” search to find their group's store. No one has to sign up to look around.

  • 03

The whole journey, in eight steps

A scroll-through story starts with the group chat chaos everyone recognises (“who still needs to send me their size?”) and ends with gear shipped to each member's door.

  • 04

    Prices and promises up front

Free to create, no minimums, tees from $16.99, hoodies from $26.99, printed in 5–7 business days, misprints replaced. The questions that stop a sale are answered before they're asked.

  • 05

    A brand with some grit

Condensed athletic type, a shield mark and a gold accent that suit teams, schools and units. A light and dark mode so it reads well anywhere.

  • 06

    Built to be quick

Built with Next.js and optimised images, so the store builder and product photos load fast — even on a phone at the sideline.

For your business

The same approach, your site.

Most small business sites have the same problem Gearmate had: the good stuff is there, but visitors have to dig for it. A revamp puts what you offer, what it costs and how to get started where people actually look, without losing the search rankings you’ve built.
